Imam Mohammed Magid

Imam Magid    
Imam Mohamed Hagmagid is a Sudanese-born American who came to the United States in 1987. He attained his religious education in various Islamic disciplines as a Resident Scholar at Al-Medina Institute. Currently serving as the Executive Director of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS), Imam Magid helped establish exemplary religious services for Muslim communities across the nation to emulate. He has much experience serving the nation-wide Muslim community as ISNA's East Zone representative and as ISNA Vice President prior to his election in September 2010 as ISNA President. Imam Magid has a long history of commitment to public service through organizations, such as The Peaceful Families Project, Annual Twinning of Mosques and Synagogues, Fairfax Faith Communities in Action, Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington Assembly and the Buxton Interfaith Initiative.



Sheikh Abdurrafaa Ouertani

Abdurrafaa Ouertani    
Sheikh Abdurafaa Ouertani was raised in Tunisia and is currently an Imam at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center in Sterling, VA. He received his traditional education from scholars at the Zaytuna University and he continued to further his education by studying Fiqh and Aqeedah at the Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. He also currently holds degrees in Islamic Civilization from University of Kairaouan, Philosophy and Logic from the University of Tunis, and has an intensive background in Astronomy and the History of Sciences.

As Imam of ADAMS Center, he conducts khutbahs for Jummah, counsels members of the community, and is a strong promoter of interfaith activities. His passion lies with the youth which is evident through the numerous Islamic schools he has established and administered across the U.S. and the Virgin Islands in the past seventeen years. He also promotes causes such as Boy Scouts by volunteering with Boy Scouts of America and coaching youth soccer leagues. He is a passionate environmental activist, children’s rights activist, and he speaks on issues of child abuse and domestic violence. In the evenings, Sheikh Abdurrafaa conducts classes on various subjects including Fiqh, Tafseer of the Quran and Hadeeth through the Qurtuba institute, which draws crowds and is quite popular amongst the Northern Virginia community.


Ustadh Hatim Yousef

Hatim Yousef    
Ustadh Hatim Yousef is a Qur’an and Islamic Studies teacher at the ADAMS Center in Sterling Virginia.He holds a certification (ijaza) in Hafs and Suh’ba recitations. He studied Qur’an with Shaykh Mohammad Isam Al Quda, Shaykh Hussein Abu Laban, Shaykh Abdel-Majid Al Masri, Shaykh Ahmad Al Jamoos (raheemahullah) and the famous Islamic singer, Abu Mahmoud Al-Tirmithi, with whom Ustadh Hatim studied the seven tunes (maqams) of recitation. He has also studied Aqidah, Fiqh, and spirituality under a variety of scholars such as Shaykh Khaldoon Makhlota, Shaykh Amjad Rashid, Shaykh Ahmad Hasanat and Shaykh Nuh Keller (may Allah preserve him). He also holds a Bachelors of Arts in English Language and Translation as well as a Masters of Arts in English and Literature. Ustadh Hatem’s focus is on increasing the Muslims’ love for the Prophet- (Allah bless him and give him peace) and thereby inspiring them to follow his states and sunnahs, inward and outward.

Sheikha Zainab Alwani, PhD

Dr. Zainab Alwani    
Dr. Alwani received her Ph.D. in Islamic Sciences (Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh) Islamic Jurisprudence, from the International Islamic University in Malaysia. Her Ph.D dissertation focused on the implementation of Maqasid al Shariah: the family issues in the American Muslim family.

She is currently the Program Director and an Adjunct Professor of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at Northern Virginia Community College. She also teaches Arabic Studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, where she developed courses in Arabic Studies that focus on the link between Islamic philosophy, language and culture. She is also a professor at a number of consortium institutions including Wesley Theological Seminary, the Washington National Cathedral and Cordoba University where she developed courses in Islamic studies that focus on constructing Quranic models on various aspects of Islamic thought. As an educator, Dr. Alwani brings over 15 years of teaching and curriculum development experience in Islamic and Arabic Studies. She is as a researcher, social and community activist, she is the first female Jurist on the Fiqh council of North America.
